The Grant Program

The DMV is one of the United States’ largest gateway destinations for immigrant communities. Immigrants are vital members of the Washington D.C. community, making up approximately one in seven residents with 6,500 of them being children. Legal services are essential for this population. Unaccompanied children who are unable to receive adequate legal representation are five times more likely to be deported, often back to dangerous situations. Recognizing this need, the GW Arc Foundation’s mission is to financially assist organizations that provide access to legal support services to immigrant/newcomer youth (0–25) in the DMV area.

We fund nonprofits that:

  • Primarily offer legal services (including but not limited to obtaining special immigrant juvenile status, applying for asylum, assisting with family reunification, and providing representation to detained individuals)

  • Serve immigrants to the US (including but not limited to newcomers, undocumented individuals, and unnaturalized peoples)

  • Serve youth ages 0-25

  • Operate within the DMV region

Eligibility Requirements

We support nonprofits who work within the DMV region and directly benefit the target populations within their respective communities.

Applicant organizations must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a 501(c)3-designated nonprofit organization

  • Serve immigrant populations (including newcomers, undocumented, and unnaturalized peoples who have immigrated to the US)

  • Are based in the DMV Region

  • Provide legal services

Grant requests are limited to a maximum of $7,000. This RFP is for a one-time grant which provides unrestricted funds.

The Grant Review Process

The GW Arc Foundation will conduct a thorough review of each application, including the organizations’ websites. The foundation will contact nonprofits individually if we require additional information or documentation. We will acknowledge your application within a week of its receipt and will disclose the recipient by April 24, 2024.
